Tingilinde began on July 7, 2003 with a link to an earlier blog on another platform. 11 years, 8 months and 22 days. A bit over $1,000 in hosting fees.
Thanks to everyone who sends comments and suggest links.. this goes back to an email list and the Mosaic days followed by an early blogish site going by the same name (the Crandall Surf Report). In 1997 my employer at the time was getting into "the Internet" and decided that since I worked for them they owned the content (it was not published using any of their resources). I stopped for awhile only restarting it as a Radio weblog after I left the company - the Crandall Surf Report 2.0 - I had no idea it was still being served.
The name has a connection to one of J.R.R. Tolkein's languages.
almost ten years
In a few days tingilinde will be a decade old. This marks the 12,000th post - something that seems better to mark than the ten year point.
It started out as an extension of the crandall surf report 2.0, which was an extension of the csr 1.0, which - in turn - was an extension of a mailing list that started a few months after the Mosaic browser was released. The notion was just a few words and perhaps a link about whatever seemed interesting. Probably half of the links come from friends and it formed something of a middenheap or perhaps an odd diary.
To date tingilinde has cost a bit over $1,000 in hosting and bandwidth costs (it is a bit over 17M page visits to date) and generates zero income although there have been a few books and music reviews where I note they have given me a book or piece of music to review. (If anyone wants to give me a Mac Pro after they are released at the end of the year, I'll be more than happy to review it ... the same goes for nice camera kit. A Sony RX1 would make for an interesting review:-)
