Oberlin College is one of the most progressive institutions in the country when it comes to minimizing its impact on the environment. Not terribly surprising as the student body and faculty is more liberal than most. So it isn't surprising to see a monitoring effort.
Monitoring electricity, water and carbon dioxide for some elements of the city - perhaps a nice idea, although I don't know how people will process the information. Apparently it is being used in some school classes. Unfortunately it is implemented in Flash - a fading technology that doesn't work on most mobile devices
