Watching this interview segment of Sarah Palin having another Bush Doctrine moment took me back to my days of teaching undergrad physics to pre-meds. Some students would miss major tests and I gave more than a few makeup exams. The best way to sort out how well the student was doing was to give an oral exam at the blackboard.
Students who were prepared did well. Some weren't prepared and would admit that on some of the questions. A few were in over their heads and tried to answer anyway. That struck me as a fault - laziness and dishonesty coupled together in something that rendered them incredibly foolish. It bothered me that these were hoping to become medical doctors where such traits would be disastrous. I failed those who tried this stunt.
