This year's shower is spoiled by a nearly full moon.
The best bet is to get out before moonrise (8:30 to 10:00ish in most areas) and watch for earthgrazers - the meteors that appear when the radiant of the shower is on near the horizon.
There won't be many - perhaps a half dozen per hour - but earthgrazing perseids are slow and wonderfully bright.
If it is clear and you have a dark location, go out with a blanket some lemonade... lay on your back and look up. They will move mostly North to South (the radiant is about 30 degrees East of North, but looking N-S is good enough)

next year will only have minimal interference from moonlight, so waiting is also a virtue
