What strikes me as remarkable is how innumerate much of the public is on the level of public broadcast funding (pdf  of a CNN poll) as well as what fraction of total PBS/NPR funding it constitutes.  The Corporation for Public Broadcasting receives about the same funding as miltary bands....

Of course the right hates PBS and NPR, so there was some dog whistling going on...
