connecting with your audience

Eric Ostermeirer of the University of Minnesota analyzed various convention speeches by the wives of presidential candidates using the Flesch-Kincaid test and finds MIchelle Obama's DNC speech the other night was about seven grade levels above Ann Romney's RNC address.  Specifially Michelle's was at the 12.84 grade level and Ann's was at 5.80.

These sort of things are carefully analyzed and edited - it is all about reaching your target audience....
