Manual transmissions on the rise in the US. I strongly prefer sticks - it makes me feel a bit more connected with the car and, at least I imagine, increases my concentration on driving. For a long time it was decreasing the resale value of a car - now that seems to be changing..
I know a couple of young women who learned to drive manuals and found that really intimidated their boyfriends who lacked the skill.
