sigh - 100,000,000 x pi

Population estimates are just that - estimates.

Oddly this was newworthy yesterday:

As of 3:54 p.m. EDT (1954 GMT), the bureau's population clock showed a U.S. population of 314,159,667. 

The piece doesn't mention this is an estimate and implies it is known to a fair amount of precision.  I wonder what the estimated error is?
