From the Secretary of Agriculture.
We're experiencing a normal weather fluctuation. There are hotter and colder times as well as wetter and drier all over the world. The problem is the climate is changing - mostly due to our own actions - and the nature of those excursions is shifting. They are becoming more frequent and more severe in many places.
The best plan of action would be to minimize actions that are shifting the climate. We've largely failed at that and we'll see band aid solutions over the next few decades. I worry it is too late for meaningful action as it takes a huge committment and decades to change something as massive as the world's energy use and power production. So we'll have to adapt and suffer with the pain - something that will be very distuptive and enormously expensive as the extremes become a normal way of life. At the same time we need to curtail carbon emissions if we care about future generations - sadly there is little sign that people care about their children and grandchildren.
It would be nice if the Secretary of Agriculture realized we don't have a prayer.... all we are doing so far is giving welfare to the red states ...
