a diy inexpensive "mac pro"

Apple basically hasn't updated the Mac Pro in a couple of years.  A reader who works in an art shop notes they are moving to "homemade" Intel boxes running current OS X to save money and get greater performance at the same time.  He recommends this link and its links.
