Most of the curent high resolution "blue marble" images of the Earth are composite views from satellites in relatively low orbits. The Russians have a weather satellite with a 121 megapixel camera that provides a lovely view of our planet from geostationary orbit high above the Indian ocean. James Drake took about 350 images from one of the satellites and made a movie - (note that down is up in the movie)
just wow! and go full screen!!
