BeyondMeat was featured on NPR today.
A few months ago Mark Bittman tried it and approved as a way to get a good enough meat substitute that has a much lighter resource footprint. Animals are inefficient mechanisms for turning food into -- well -- food. In theory it will be cheaper than the real thing (probably not at first).
Through the aging process I have lost most of my sense of smell, which means that most foods come across as bland and unappetizing. That fake chicken, surely containing a list of eight-syllable chemicals that cannot be as healthy for me as real chicken, does not look appetizing at all. And I cannot stomach boca burgers, which is like eating a chemical factory. Guess I'll stick with the real McCoy.
