There is scifi and then there is scifi.
Back in the 1970s while men were walking on the moon, my dad refused to believe that the images he saw on the TV screen were true. Why? Because his fifth-grade education did not afford him the ability to understand the underlying science. His favorite TV show at that time was "I Dream of Jeannie," and fresh in his mind were their editing tricks. His continued refrain was, "If those SOBs can make people disappear, they can make 'em walk on the moon." He didn't know who those SOBs were, only that they were spending his hard-earned tax dollars.
