Since I've been fairly successful in losing some weight in the last year I'm finding people are asking for tips. What has worked for me involves carefully tracking of exercise and food intake. Restaurants can be a challenge and involve guessing - sometimes you make a wild guess and try to be conservative, but guides help.
For Chinese restaurants I use a guide from the Center for Science in the Public Interest. Their numbers square with other measurements I've seen although they don't have careful nutrition breakdowns, portion sizes, or other variations that happen .. just a good starting spot for somewhat better guessing.
Of course keeping a desired weight after a loss can be very difficult (via the NY Times) - so I still need to watch exercise, intake and weight regularly even though I am at my goal.
