Apple now accounts for two thirds of the profits for mobile phones (and much more for tablets).

A key to Apple's success is that people don't buy phones, but they are buying into a platform. Apple has arguably the best platform for most people and Google is rapidly expanding theirs. We've watched Nokia implode and may be witnessing the implosion of RIM now...
