Some car companies started out making bikes (Peugeot), but in recent years a few car companies have periodically offered boutique bikes (BMW, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Jeep, Mercedes Benz and Porsche to name a few). I doubt there is any design on the part of the car company other than paint schemes and logos and the prices tend to be inflated. It would be interesting to see if competitively priced bikes were sold at car dealerships - but these deals seem more for image.
Audi is now doing it pairing with Renovo. Renovo makes very spendy wood framed bikes. Wood turns out to be an interesting choice for a bike frame and some people love these bikes, although they are very rare. I'm sure Audi and the other companies see this as a branding exercise.
