tennis balls, dog ball launchers and inexpensive sensors

Jessica Lundquist of the U of Washington embeds temperature sensors in tennis balls and launches them into trees to record temperature during the Winter.

$10,000 weather stations are now $30 a throw (so to speak).  Her webpage.
