Robert Krulwilch's appeal for more storytelling in science made me think about my own faults as a story teller. I've been trying to put together a book with limited success and I'm thinking of taking a different approach.
Some time ago I watched four videos by Ira Glass (god of This American Life) on the subject.
highly recommended if you need to create a good narrative
part 1 the basics
part 2 finding the stories
part 3 on good taste and sticking with it
part 4 speaking in your own voice
Ira Glass is brilliant, and he even shares his mistakes in one of the videos.
teh thing most people miss is that your story needs both a series of things happening (events) and also something to give it meaning. He calls this the momnet of reflection.
