drilling

Gathering information, one comes to the conclusion the amount of offshore oil isn't terribly large and takes quite a bit of time and expensive drilling to tap. The idea is both dumb and pandering and it does nothing to move us from dependance on oil

The oil generated is probably less than the conservation savings a strictly enforced 55mph speed limit would give. A big advantage is that the savings would begin immediately and drilling would take a long time before anything flows (other than positive cash flow to exploration companies).

Of course there is little political will to conserve in the US.
