Black carbon appears to be worse than expected - the good news is that it doesn't remain in the atmosphere for huge periods like carbon dioxide.
Moving third world countries to smoke free combustion (which seems sort of do-able) and improving or eliminating diesels would be help. There are also direct health benefits.
